Academic Excellence

Our aim in Carrigtwohill Community College is to ensure that all students fulfil their potential. In order to ensure that this is achieved, it is crucial that students are encouraged to strive for academic excellence. Teaching and Learning are at the core of our college ethos where varied and engaging teaching methodologies are used to ensure that all students, regardless of ability or learning styles, are enabled to maximise their success. Students are monitored through classroom work, homework, informal assessment and formal assessment.

Homework and Supervised Study

Homework plays a vital role in the academic development and learning of our students. Supervised After-School Study is provided for all students where they will be offered assistance with assigned homework and are introduced to a structured learning and study environment.

Academic Council

The Academic Council, comprised of teachers within the College, meet to discuss the academic progression of students and implement plans on how further improvements can be achieved. The role of the Council is to identify methods of best teaching practice and to examine how these can be implemented across the entire school. This allows students to maximise their achievements. A specific emphasis is placed on literacy and numeracy development to aid progression across all subject areas.
